Romain is searching for love and doesn’t quite understand what it’s about. He uses a lot of idiomatic every day expressions. If your ear is a bit trained to street French, you’ll hear a few coarse words. In fact, if translated literally, this passage would probably be xed. Yet, I promise, this language Romain uses is pretty common, and not shocking at all. It will lead us to go over les gros mots in the companion worksheet. Les gros mots – fat words – are swear words. That way, you will all be linguistically-ready when facing a Paris airport strike for instance. The okay-to-use expressions are in blue, the cruder ones are in red in the worksheet. Also in the worksheet, the verb se plaindre – to complain – conjugated in 14 tenses and modes.

This FRENCH ETC. series of podcasts is probably the most advanced we offer. It’s on the Northern coast of Brittany, as big as stamp, and allows no cars. Antoine – famous singer and sailor – leads the visit. His presentation is short enough for us to handle, and yet, long enough to give us practice in hearing authentic French and review a few points. The companion worksheet has the text and translation, along with a review on articles: remember you say l’Île de Batz, la France and not Île de Batz and France like we’d be tempted to say, the worksheet also goes over when to say DE and when to use DES, and the pronunciation of final consonants.

That was <a

Le français tel quel features videos & audios of real French people talking, because we know that ‘French as it is’ isn’t always clear: people seems to speak fast and eat their words. We try to break it down and make it easier for you.Today, we’re embarking for Batz Island. That’s an island that is very dear to me, as I often visit it. I invite you to go too. That was Anne (http://www.frenchetc.org/about/aboutanne/) at frenchetc.org, bringing you today’s French, with authentic and useful expressions. Merci et thank you for listening to FRENCH ETC. We hope you found this helpful, and if you want more, please visit www.frenchetc.org (http://www.frenchetc.org/). We love questions, comments, and suggestions. Feel free to leave a reply in the post.
