Mot du jour Podcast

djeunes, young people

“djeunes” is a good illustration of the funny path French is taking these days. You won’t find this in your textbook. I started hearing “djeunes” about three years ago. The spelling I chose is entirely my responsibility.

In fact, you don’t see “djeunes” written down.  “djeunes” is nothing but “jeunes” pronounced with an English accent. It means “the young generation, young people.”

  • « Ça, c’est une zique pour les djeunes. »
“That’s a tune for young people.”

There are many other expressions you probably won’t find in your textbook on the Web site. Venez nous voir.

That was Anne’s native take on a French expression. Bonne journée française.
