Mot du jour Podcast

ça m’fout les boules

ça m’fout les boules has recently become a very popular expression. Literally, it would be ” That to me gives the balls”. I’m not sure if we are talking about Pétanque balls here. Moreover, the verb used in this expression foutre, can be very offensive, – not in this expression, though. Lots on this verb and its companion ficher on the Web site. Here, it is just a common expression. It means two things, depending on the context: either I’m afraid, or It’s bringing me down.

« Je retourne pas voir ce navet, ça m’fout les boules. »
“I’m not going back to see that flop. It gives me the creeps.”

présent : ça me fout

passé composé : ça m’a foutu

futur : ça me foutera

That was Anne’s native take on a French expression. Bonne journée française.
