confiture aux cochons

donner de la confiture aux cochons means to give jelly to pigs. The expression is used when you want to express the fact that you gave somebody something really dear to you, or something expensive, and they didn’t appreciate it. It was kind of wasted on them. I’m not sure if there is an equivalent expression in English. Send me a note if you know of one.

« Oh nan, j’leur fait pas un soufflé au fromage. Ce serait donner d’la confiture aux cochons. Ils vont toujours se goinffrer au resto rapide du coin.  »
” Nope, I’m not gonna make them a cheese soufflé. It would be wasted on them. They always go and stuff themselves at the local fast food restaurant.”
